The Public Defender Office plays a necessary and integral role in the administration of the judicial system in Rapides Parish. Its attorneys proudly ensure that the Constitutional rights of their clients are protected and strive to provide expert legal service with minimal cost to the client.
Felony court is for adults accused of committing crimes punishable by death or imprisonment at hard labor. Felony Court divisions are mainly located on the 4th floor of the Rapides Parish Courthouse.

Misdemeanor court is for those who are criminal charges that can carry a maximum sentence of 365 days in parish jail and/or a substantial monetary fine.

JUVENILE COURT
Children under the age of 17 at the time of the alleged offense are considered juveniles in Louisiana. When charged with committing delinquent acts (criminal violations), they appear before a district court judge in the Juvenile Division. Juvenile Court is located on the 6th floor of the Rapides Parish Courthouse. All juvenile proceedings are closed to the public and only those having a matter before the court are allowed in the courtroom.

Mary Augustine - Parent Advocate/Juvenile Coordinator is there to provide non- judgemental support to parents in our Child in Need of Care program. Parent advocates work hand-in-hand with your attorney, supporting and mentoring you to remain an engaged participant in your case plan.
Juvenile Coordinator: The Juvenile Coordinator is your first point of contact prior to interacting with your juvenile attorney.
CITY COURT
The Court maintains criminal jurisdiction over misdemeanors and traffic offenses that are generally punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 and/or jail term of not more than six months.

MAYOR'S COURT
